Well it’s that time of year again, time to get out the winter clothes and holiday decorations. Which of course means it’s also time for my annual reminder to use caution when going into those seldom used storage areas.
While our prized decorations have been enjoying some time off, various spiders may have decided to move into the “Christmas Village”. The most commonly used storage areas (attics, basements, out of the way closets and sheds) are also the preferred hideout of brown recluse and black widow spiders.
Many home owners, like me, have been using the same cardboard boxes for years, and after all this time, the boxes just don’t tape up as securely as they once did. If you were to look for a recipe for spider bites …. I believe untaped boxes and spider hangout would be key ingredients.
To help avoid potentially painful spider bites, wear long sleeves and gloves while retrieving and opening boxes which have been stored. Thoroughly shake sweaters, coats, boots, hats, scarves etc before donning to dislodge spiders.
Wishing everyone happy decorating and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
